Research project Timone Piezo

For the Project Piezoelectric Rudder, Seanet Group plans to develop a prototype of a biomorph rudder (piezoelectric rudder). The bio-morphism is given by the substitution of traditional movement elements of the rudder with a system of actuation which is shared out on the whole surface of the rudder. This type of actuation changes the geometry of the rudder surface through the use of piezoelectric fibres immersed in a matrix to form a piezo-composite material. This system can change its shape like the fins of a manta while swims in the sea.
